The Sound of Social Media Silence

Do you know what happens when you don’t go on social media? Nothing.
Your life doesn’t fall apart. You don’t lose touch with the people you love.
The only thing that happens is silence—mind silence. No chatter. No traffic. No distraction.

As someone who has built a career with her mind, I’m delighted with myself for fasting from social media these past seven weeks. I popped on briefly to share a July recap and to see my daughter’s third-season soccer pictures, but otherwise, I’ve stayed off.

And guess what? I still know what’s happening in the world—I just learn about it on my own terms. I read instead of scrolling. My nervous system thanks me.

The biggest gift has been getting my own thoughts back. I’m not being told what to think, believe, fear, buy, or change about my face, body, house, car, or relationships. It’s just me, thinking with my own wise brain.

If you’re a woman—especially a founder—trying to build a business, the best thing you can do for yourself is to get the actual fuck off social media.

Here’s the truth I hate to admit: I’ve spent a lot of money on posts, graphics, and snippets, and I’ve never gotten a single client from social media. The only reason I kept at it was because I liked the little hit of dopamine when someone liked a post. But from a business perspective? A waste of time.

I know it works for some people. But for 99% of the women I work with—you don’t need to be on social media as a human. And if your business does, let the business be on it, and let someone else manage it.

Because you are the asset, my love—your brain, your energy, your time, your emotional health.

If you’re enmeshed, I challenge you to step away. You already know if this is you—you’re feeling defensive or confronted as you read this.

And I know you can do hard things, gorgeous. Hard things often lead to magic.

So test it. What if I’m right?
What if the answer isn’t in the endless scrolling before bed, at lunch, or while waiting for your tires to be changed?

What if the magic you’ve been looking for is already inside you—waiting for you to turn down the noise so you can turn it up?

Because I have it on good authority: the wisdom you most need is your own.
