Money Thoughts for Female Entrepreneurs

When it comes to releasing and detoxing, money can be a huge issue. Some people have a great relationship with their finances, others a horrible one, and I would say the majority of us fall somewhere in the middle. For myself, I discovered I had unknowingly harbored a lot of toxicity about finances. When I would think about my connotations regarding money, my thoughts and feelings appeared pretty on the surface… but they really weren’t.

In this episode, I open up about my own money detoxing. Through the process, I learned I was believing some things about myself and my finances that weren’t as freeing as I’d thought them to be. I hope by sharing my experience, I can help you recognize and release any of your own toxic thoughts and beliefs.

All right, y'all, in the summer of release and detox, I've got a big one for you for this week's podcast. Let's talk about money. Here we go.

Welcome, welcome. So, money. Listen, we all have a relationship with money. Some of us have really, really healthy relationships with money. Some of us have really, really, terrible relationships with money. Most of us all somewhere in between. And I wanna tell the story of my relationship because I was hanging onto some pretty toxic thoughts about money and I didn't know it. Cuz they felt very pretty and they felt very humble and they felt like I wasn't being auspicious or braggadocious or all the other things that I have secretly been believing against myself.

So I was having a conversation with my CFO, appropriately. She's an incredible coach. Her name is Emily Sandberg. She is also a certified coach, but she, her area of expertise is in helping women like me build successful financial organizations and we were talking about next steps. Because as you all know, I'm making changes to my business and I'm just about ready to tell y'all about it. And we were talking about money and we were talking about how I don't like to sell to people that I help you make more money.

And so she said, "Well, why?"

And I said, "Because it seems fake. It feels manipulative. It feels like I'm grasping at the low hanging fruit."

Now, not everybody agrees with that, but that was certainly my thinking and has been forever despite so many people telling me I should do that. And despite my clients telling me how much more money they've made, right? I get emails. "I made $750,000 more last year." "I made million dollars personally. Last year for the first time, not, not revenue, personal income."

I've had clients go from 6 million to 22 million. I have my best girlfriend, Brooke Castillo, right? She's very open about how she's earned money and I've been coaching her the whole way cause she got to $50 million. I've coached other people who coach other people, Eleanor Beaton. These are people who have amplified their earnings 2, 3, 4 fivefold. I've coached people who've gone from $1 million to $3 million, $3 million to $5 million. $150,000 to a million.

I just don't talk about it because the truth is, while I love money. It isn't a core value of mine. Money. So she asked me though more about it and she said, "Well, what do you think is the reason that so many people do tell people they can help 'em make more money?"

And I said, "Well, because people like to make money."

And she said, "Well, let's talk about you. Since you've made, you know, been running a seven figure business, how has money helped you?"

And I'm like, "Well, it's great. I've been able to take my family on great vacations. I have a beautiful home. I don't worry. I, you know, save. It's been lovely. Just takes sort of the edge off."

She's like, "Okay, so what's been bad about making more money?"

Then I was onto her. I'm like, "Not much, other than to pay a little bit more in taxes, right?"

She said, "So why do you think so many people wanna talk about making more money?"

And I said, "Well, because making more money helps you live a better life. I don't think it makes you happier, but I do think it helps you live better and gives you more freedom." I've seen a lot of people who are really rich, who aren't terribly happy, so money isn't happiness, but it is, there's freedom and choice.

And she said, "Okay, so what's wrong with telling people that if they work with you, that's likely what's gonna happen?" Because it does. Anybody, all my clients who've worked with me - sorry you guys, I'm on my walk, in Hawaii, I might add. Another advantage of actually making money. But she's, you know, all of the clients that I've worked with, who've worked with me for, you know, two, three plus years, they're all exponentially earning more income.

Now, the problem I have is taking credit for that. I don't take credit for that. They do the work, but I do wanna take some level of contribution to helping my clients become the woman who can earn that kind of money. Because that's how we actually exponentially change how we generate wealth is we become the woman who generates it. We don't just make money because we make money. We make money because we step into a different version of ourselves, and that version attracts more abundance, more wealth.

And so it was a really epiphanous experience because I realized so many of us have a lot of money stories, and most of them have to do with scarcity and fear. Losing it. And I think we all have a good reason for that. I think there's like actually very strong generational DNA crap going on for most of us. And then just the fact that, I mean, it's just been like in the last five years that women have started to truly step into financial power and talking about money, right?

I mean, my mom and dad divorced in 1975 and she couldn't get a credit card. If it weren't for the grace of a friend of hers giving her cash and saying, you pay this forward, she and I would've really struggled. And she did pay it forward to another woman one day who needed the financial support after a breakup.

So as women were new to this, and I think we've watched what money has meant in the world traditionally, and it's still kind of like the thing that gets all the attention is the flashy. It's all the material stuff. But as I was talking to Emily and I really sat with what I'm trying to do here, I realized that it's not about money.

Sure. I think I can help you become the woman who generates more cash in her business. Because the truth is, if you lead better, you're gonna lead your company better, you're gonna make more money. But what I really wanna think about and believe and know is that I help myself and my clients be wealthy. And wealth is different than transactional money.

Wealth, to me is stability and freedom. It's abundance. It's confidence. And so as I look at the cast of my clients over the past five years, we have collectively built and generated a tremendous amount of wealth. And so I want to invite you, as the leader of your business, to really examine the relationship you have with money.

Because, I don't value money. I like money, but the truth is I'll make a different choice over money any day, which is quite evident by how I've spent a whole career in my own business, giving people discounts and free stuff, right? Because what I value is their transformation, is my contribution to their transformation. But what Emily helped me recognize is that is valuable, that transformation generates wealth. Who knew?

So I want you to look at your own thoughts about money. You may be similar to me. You don't value money, but you love and value wealth, abundance, freedom, independence. That is available to us, especially as women, when we are well-resourced and we are wealthy. Being a wealthy woman only makes us more powerful, more unstoppable, more magical.

The abundance that my clients have been able to generate in their lives that suits them; flying private, wearing the shoes that they love, buying the home that they love, stepping out of the business and traveling with their kids who do things in their lives, paying for high-end experiences for their family, buying their parents first class plane tickets. These are the things that my clients are able to do now that they enjoy and they feel so good about.

So that isn't about money. That's an expression of wealth, and it's arriving into the identity of the woman who possesses that. So I really wanna invite you to examine your relationship with money. And in the program that I'm gonna launch here soon. If you're not on my private subscriber list, you probably should be. We're gonna do work around this. We're gonna think about what a wealthy life is, what an abundant life is. Not just, did you hit seven figures? Did you hit eight figures? How many figures have you hit?

Listen, I love it all. There's nothing more fun than listening to a woman tell me, "Hey, I made $2 million more this year." Okay, badass! That's amazing! How fun.

Who is the woman that you have become to achieve that? Because that's also so fun. Transformation is no joke. And when you invest in yourself because you are the asset, you are the premier asset of your life and your business, and you invest in that and you, there's just no telling where you'll be able to go.

So thank you for tuning in and I will talk with you very soon.
